Welcome to Kinderhaven

At Kinderhaven, we believe early childhood is a remarkable period of discovery, growth, and possibility. Our program blends the timeless wisdom of Montessori principles with the Alberta FLIGHT Framework – Mighty Learners & Citizens to create a nurturing, inclusive, and academically enriched environment where children can thrive.

We are committed to supporting each child’s natural curiosity while guiding them toward independence, confidence, and a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

Our Educational

Philosophy

Kinderhaven’s Early Childhood Education philosophy is rooted in Montessori values, emphasizing:

Children learn best through exploration and meaningful engagement. Our classrooms are thoughtfully prepared to encourage inquiry, concentration, and joyful discovery.

We combine Montessori practices with play-based and inquiry-driven learning, allowing children to construct knowledge through experimentation, problem‑solving, and open-ended play. This balance helps develop strong academic foundations in language, math, critical thinking, and early literacy.

An Academically Focused

Approach

Kinderhaven is academically intentional while remaining developmentally responsive. Our curriculum supports growth across all developmental domains:

Cognitive Development

Hands-on exploration builds early math, science, literacy, memory, and reasoning skills.

Social Development

Children learn communication, cooperation, empathy, and conflict resolution.

Emotional Development

We guide self‑regulation, resilience, independence, and self‑confidence through consistent, positive routines.

Physical Development

Fine‑motor skills develop through Montessori materials, while gross‑motor growth is supported through outdoor play and movement-rich activities.

Creative Development

Daily opportunities for art, music, storytelling, dramatic play, and open-ended projects nurture imagination and expression.

STEM Learning at

Kinderhaven

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is an essential part of our academic and Montessori‑inspired learning environment. At Kinderhaven, STEM is not taught through worksheets or memorization—it is experienced through hands‑on investigation, experimentation, and discovery.

How We Integrate STEM

Children explore nature, life cycles, weather, magnetism, water play, and basic scientific processes such as observing, predicting, and testing.

Age‑appropriate tools like light tables, coding toys, sensory equipment, and simple machines introduce technological thinking in a developmentally safe way.

Children build, design, and solve problems using blocks, loose parts, and simple tools, learning how structures work through hands-on exploration and trial and error.

Children explore numbers, patterns, measuring, and sorting through play-based activities that build early math and logical thinking skills naturally.
